First Looks...why you should see each other before the ceremony
Most of us know that superstition says a bride and groom should avoid seeing each other before the wedding ceremony. Because of this superstition and it's promise of bad luck, many couples go to great lengths to make sure the first time they see each other is from either end of the aisle at the ceremony.
I, being the naturally inquisitive type, started inquiring why this is considered bad luck. For the life of me, I could not come up with a logical reason why this would bring bad luck to the soon-to-be-wed couple. Where do I go whenever I need an answer to a tough question? Google of course! (sorry mom!) My search pointed me to The Knot's answer to the question "Can we see each other before the wedding?" They explained that it is a superstition that links back to an ancient tradition of the bride never showing her face to the groom before the ceremony. Wow!! Really? Never? Further reading elsewhere explained how the groom may get cold feet if he saw the bride before the "unveiling". This obviously, has to be referring to arranged marriages! I can see where yes, it could be bad luck if you were arranged to marry someone you weren't attracted to--I mean that, along with other qualities, is why we like to pick our own mates. So, I have to ask..."Why, if we prefer to pick our own mates and have an opportunity to fall in love before we commit to marriage, do we still uphold this ancient superstition?" I imagine there are a million reasons why, but let me try to convince you to throw this one superstition away for your wedding day...

Reason #1

Reason #2 (as if Reason #1 wasn't enough)
Time. Your time. Your photographers time. Your family's time. Your bridal party's time. Guaranteed everyone will be pleased when you opt for the First Look session. In doing so, you allow for capturing all of the formal family and bridal party pictures prior to the start of the ceremony as well. Which brings me to....
Reason #3 (yes! there are more good reasons!)
You, your new spouse, your bridal party and your families all can enjoy the cocktail hour! I always have a server dedicated to passing hors d'oeuvres and cocktails to my wedding party during photos but it isn't the same as actually attending the cocktail hour. Think of all the greeting you can do during your cocktail hour leaving more time to enjoy your dinner and dancing at the reception! The day goes fast, make the most of it!

I am certain I can come up with more reasons for why you should have a First Look session on your wedding day but I think these three make a pretty strong argument. Hopefully you will agree and will opt to capture this very special, once-in-a-lifetime moment up close and personal, not from a far.
As always, if I can help you in any way please drop me a line!
